Hospital Bag Checklist for Birth | Mom and Baby

May 2, 2024 by nadxiieli Leave a Comment

Packing a hospital bag is a must sometimes even if you are planning a home birth. It never hurts to be extra prepared even if you are not birthing your baby in a hospital!

The best time to pack your hospital bag is between 36-37 weeks. I say 36 weeks because if you find your self in labor at 36 weeks and 6 days you won’t have to panic pack. Labor is spontaneous so it is always best to control the things you can truly control even if its not when labor starts your hospital bag is a start!

Hospital Bag For Mom

When it comes to postpartum sanitary items it is always best to check what your hospital or birth center has to offer. Usually they have this part covered for you. Yet, if you feel like you could benefit for extra support follow your mama instincts and do it!

Birth Plan

A birth plan is a must have for when you are in the thick of it and cannot properly communicate with your providers. It is always best to share with your partner/doula so they can help you advocate for yourself!

Comfortable & Stretchy Clothing

This one seems like a given but making sure you have breastfeeding friend options is something else to consider as well.

Shampoo & Conditioner

Most hospitals will provide you with your Shower toiletries but since you are not home having some basics that remind you of home can make a big difference with your postpartum experience.

Tooth Paste & Tooth Brush

Instead of packing you everyday toothbrush and toothpaste you can purchase a travel sized toothbrush and tooth paste to make you life a bit easier!

Phone and/or Camera Charger

A type that I got from a friend when I had my first baby in the hospital was to get an extra long phone cord charger. Hospital outlets are never exactly placed conveniently.

Snacks & Drinks of Choice

The options are endless here! Most hospital have policies about eating during labor. And many times after you give birth, depending on the time of day, their cafeteria is closed thus making snack and drink and must when packing your hospital bag.

Bluetooth Speaker

Now this is just a fun little extra. You may have already planned on it or not but having the option to play a podcast or music during labor can possible help you more than you know it! Worse case is you don’t us a bluetooth speaker at all.

Hospital Bag for Baby

Just like mom hospitals and birth centers usually have all the diapers, wipes, and creams at your dispense! So take advantage! As always follow your instincts and bring what you you want to use on your sweet little one.

Valid Carseat

Believe it or not but carseats actually do expire! So make sure to bring a current carseat to carry your precious cargo home.

Special Outfit

Taking baby home is the most special moment. Having an outfit you can pull out when you want to reminisce makes the small moments even more special.

Special Blanket

Doesn’t just have to be an outfit but a blanket is a great option too!
