What is in my Birth Doula Bag?

April 16, 2024 by nadxiieli Leave a Comment

My Doula Bag Must Haves

These are items I find extremely helpful to have present while supporting a laboring mother BUT the most important part of doula work is a doulas hands, heart, and education.

Fresh Chapstick

Sounds silly? I know it may. When you are progressing through labor you may find, if you are in the hospital, the air is too dry. If you are birthing else where you may find your mouth and lips may start getting dry from doing breathing techniques etc… Chapstick may be your best friend! For all my clients I will have a chapstick just for you to keep! No need to stress the small things.

Wash Rags

Having some towels on hand come in handy with keeping sweat at bay or even keeping you cool.

Labor Combs

Now this is something that varies from women to women. Labor combs maybe a game changer when progressing through transition!

Snacks

Snacks are a must have! When enter labor and birth you are entering one of the most physically demanding times of your life. Providing your body with the energy it needs will help set you up for success! We will talk about your favorites and I will make sure I have them on hand.

Batteries/ Chargers

Most of my doula supplies stay in my doula bag. That being said its easy to forget things in the heat of the moment! I make sure to keep batteries and chargers at all times.

Hair Ties

Another thing that may seem silly until the need arises!

Gum

The LONGEST labor I have attended was three days long! So incase I or someone else on your birth team needs a quick refresh of the breath I got your back. No one wants to smell bad breath while having a baby.

The Rest of my Doula Supplies

Tens Machine

A Tens Machine is a small device that sends small electrical pulses to a single area for temporary pain relief.

Rebozo

A Rebozo is a shawl or typically woven piece of fabric that can be used to help in pregnancy and/or labor. There are many different positions that can be done to help provide some relief. During our prenatal visits I will show you how to use one!

Twinkle Lights/ Battery Candles

Wether you are in the hospital or at home having some mood settling light can provide another way to relax.

Affirmation Cards

Some extra words of ecouragment!

Gloves

I will not be providing medical tasks or procedures. Goes comes in handy when helping clean up messes, and for the just in case moments.

Hand Sanitizer

Alway good to have a quick way to sanitize.

Essential Oils

The top essential oils 3 I keep on hand are: Peppermint, citrus, and lavender. During your prenatal visits we will discuss more about how essential oils may help. You can also choose what other kinds you would like me to have on hand!

Cold Compress

For pain relief and hot moments.

Heat Pack

For the chance you may feel cold! Also pain relief.

Is there more?

This list is ever changing and most importantly what I add in my doula bag completely depends on what it is you let me know you need the most support with.
